Reading..the play-doh way!

Last Thursday was SO beautiful.
So instead of staying inside & doing school,
we grabbed the play-doh & headed to the great outdoors!

Ok fine, just the back patio, but still, lots of fun :)
The boys molded and cut for a bit, using their imaginations while enjoying the beautiful day..
A few years ago, when we still lived in Germany, I bought these alphabet letters for play-doh.
I thought they'd be a neat and creative way for Caleb to learn, and now Ayden too!
I cut out some words with short vowels in them..
And put them on the lid, and Caleb read them perfectly! AND had fun with it!
Ayden recognizes the first few letters, but he REALLY enjoyed playing with all of them!
I was so proud of Caleb for getting all of the words right, I did a few more sets with him, and then changed it up a bit.

Next, I put a bunch of letters all mixed up on the tray. Then I said a word slowly and had him listen for the sounds, and pick out the letters that make the word.

He did it like it was super easy!
We did that a few times, and he was back to "making train tracks".
We still did our regular activities for school, just not as much.
I really enjoyed being out there with them doing this, and I think it's important to mix it up, and keep things exciting! Here's to another fun PRE-school week! :)

What a cute, fun idea! Kids would love this.. and I love a good learning activity. I found your idea on Delicious Ambiguity's linky party.
